Maximise recyclability

  • The recyclability targets in the PPWR and the retail style guides range from ≥ 70% to ≥ 90%.

  • Our Design for Recycling solutions fulfil these targets and are designed to run optimally on standard packaging systems.

  • With our buoyant top film (density < 1) for MonoAPET trays, we also offer the first peel layer that has been certified as recycling-compatible by the renowned cyclos HTP institute. The overall concept already offers the possibility of using up to 70% recyclates in food packaging

Improving recyclate qualities

  • In addition to the use of so-called monomaterials, the main aim on the way to better recyclate qualities is to minimise the amount of impurities.

  • Printing inks are a very important factor here. They lead to discolouration and outgassing and therefore have negative effects on the recycling process and the quality of the recyclates.

  • To counteract these effects, we are active as a co-operation partner of the recycling industry and the printing ink industry. By using de-inking processes, various film qualities have been produced from recyclates that have a significantly better optical quality.

Preventing harmful substances

  • PFAS substances are to be gradually removed from the market through regulations in the USA and the EU . In some countries, these legal regulations are already in force, while in other places they are being driven forward.

  • In recent years, we have succeeded in bringing a PFAS- and MOSH/MOAH-free solution for winders to market maturity, which is compliant in both the European and North American markets.

  • This laminate guarantees both the grease barrier and the processing properties of the conventional solution and can therefore be used as a drop-in alternative. It is also possible to freeze the product and thus transport it over long distances.

Reducing the usage of plastic

  • For products that do not require oxygen and/or water vapour barriers, we have succeeded in developing a pure paper-based solution that meets the requirements for disposal via paper recycling in Germany thanks to an exclusively partially applied sealing lacquer.

  • In order for this packaging to be recycled in the paper recycling system (blue bin) , a proportion of > 95% fibre material is required in Germany. This means that only 5% of the basis weight is available for printing ink and sealing material.

  • Our paper-based solution is heat-sealable, can also be disposed of in the blue bin in Germany and has a basis weight of just 72g/m2.
